Language departments at UVA offer tests that can certify you for either Competency or Mastery in French, Spanish, Italian, German, Russian, or Polish. Other languages taught at UVA, such as Arabic, Hebrew, Farsi, Hindi, Urdu, Sanskrit, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Tibetan, may offer informal testing and certification. Students should contact the respective language coordinators for certifications in such languages.
Most departments require students to register for the tests at least 1 week in advance, and many charge for the test. The Anthropology Department will pay the $20 fee for enrolled graduate students. To arrange this, contact the Director of Graduate Studies.
